The morphology of caudolenticular grey bridges (CLGBs) has only recently been studied (as of 2025). These odd wisps of grey matter connect the gap between the caudate nucleus and the putamen, two masses of grey matter buried deep in the brain. Although their exact function is not known, it’s likely they help coordinate information about how and where to move your limbs.
The CLGBs are highlighted in this self-portrait, seen in vibrant turquoise. Other related neuroanatomical structures, such as the thalamus and the corona radiata, provide context.
